Our Beers
All of our beers will be brewed from 100% malted barley.
We will never use any of the cheaper grains such as corn or
rice that are used by most of the larger breweries in the
United States. Our first beer is a German alt beer ale
and is sold under the brand name
Phoenix Golden Ale.
“Alt” is the German word for “old” and is used to describe
this style of beer due to the required prolonged aging
needed to obtain the complex flavor profile. This beer is
named in honor of the last independent brewery that operated
in the Tri Cities. The Phoenix Brewery was located in Bay
City and closed in 1951.
Our second
style, Phelan Irish Red, was awarded a Bronze Medal at the World Expo of Beer
in the Spring of 2007! Phelan Irish Red is an
authentic Irish Ale with its own unique flavor. It is
medium bodied with a deep ruby color, moderate malt aroma,
and a creamy, tan head.
Designed
specifically for the Great Lakes Loons baseball team, our
Loon's Summer Ale is now
available at the ballbark and selective bars & restaurants.
This smooth, clean, light blonde ale, is an all-malt beer
that is perfectly balanced to provide a
clean, clear presentation without the heavy cloudiness
that is often found in summer wheat-beers. The
hops that were selected accentuate the light malt flavor
and provide a touch of bitterness. The unique yeast and
hop combination give this beer a hint of citrus aroma
with a delicate Belgium flavor that provides a
refreshing, thirst quenching finish - perfect on a hot
summer day at a Loon's baseball game!!
Our
Phoxy English nut brown ale
is medium bodied with a rich mahogany-brown color. We use five different types of premium-malted barley and two hop varieties for the malty flavor with a perfect balance of bitterness and sweetness. This dark ale has a clean and refreshing flavor for a satisfying English taste experience.
Dry Dock Stout is jet black with a creamy, long lasting head with a dominant coffee aroma and complexity of flavors. The initial rich coffee taste quickly shifts to a moderate hop bitterness leading to a drying finish without
astringency; a result of the harmony of the malted grains, roasted barley and hops. Dry Dock Stout is remarkably smooth leaving you wanting more.
Stop by, have a
sample, and fill-up a growler to take home!!
Our master
brewers received brewing education from The Doemens Academy
of Brewing in Munich, Germany and brew all our beers according to the 500 year tradition of the German Beer
Purity Law, or Reinheitsgebot. The Reinheitsgebot is the
only law of its type in the world, and strict adherence to
this law in Germany is why many believe that Germany makes
some of the best beers available in the world today.
